ABOUT THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION (TASF)
TASF was founded in 1978 by the Tuskegee Airmen, the first black pilots to serve in the US Army Air Corps during WW II. The organization was created to preserve the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen by providing scholarships to assist financially disadvantaged and deserving students in the pursuit of their college education. The scholarship fund, now named the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation (TASF) has granted over 1,300 scholarships totaling nearly $2 million to help needy students pay for college. Each year the Foundation with the support of dedicated donors, government employees, corporations, and educational advocates, presents $1,500 scholarship awards to 40 or more students who instill the ideals, leadership and commitment as exemplified by the Tuskegee Airmen. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race.

POSITION SUMMARY
TASF is seeking a Special Event and Sponsorship Consultant to work with the executive director and board in developing special events that raise the visibility of the organization and lead to corporate sponsorships that support of our mission. The ideal candidate will have a minimum five-year track record of engaging corporate, foundation, and community leaders in support of educational initiatives as they relate to aviation, aerospace, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and beyond. The successful candidate will be able to work with the board and executive director in a professional and passionate manner giving consideration to the fact that most board members are retired military personnel and least two documented original Tuskegee Airmen. The goal of the board is to increase the size and number of scholarships provided to low-income and deserving students entering college. The Special Event and Sponsorship Consultant is expected to work in conjunction with the organization’s strategic and development plan and provide hands-on guidance in special events planning and implementation. Experience with, and knowledge of scholarship management, military and minority communities is a plus. The ability to translate prior experience into a concise implementation plan that meets the needs of TASF is a greatly sought. Must be willing to work in the background and establish the needs and well-being of TASF as a primary objective.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop special events and partnership strategy designed to achieve maximum fundraising benefit
  • Develop sponsorship packets and secure corporate, foundation and community-based funding
  • Oversee event task management from concept to implementation
  • Work with TASF to develop appropriate budgets for all scheduled events
  • Develop systems for ticketing (Eventbrite) or other mechanisms and coordinate registration
  • Provide marketing and media strategy including social media and post-event publicity
  • Oversee site decorations and coordinate with appropriate staffing
  • Coordinate Speaker/VIP/Celebrity logistics and management
  • Coordinate vendor assignments to ensure proper execution of plans
  • Coordinate volunteer staff to include silent auction, raffles, etc.
  • Provide regular updates to the executive director and board on event progress
  • Provide post-event evaluation and analysis of all events


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to provide strong recommendations from past clients with a record of success
  • 5+ years events and project management, sponsorship, venue management and media experience including 3 years of experience in managing staff and volunteers
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong project management skills with proven track record of lead complex events including systematic plans, setting and managing deadlines, communicating progress with regular status reports, identifying risks and projecting potential outcomes
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, manage multiple projects simultaneously, set and manage priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, communication and client management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, and proven sales ability while maintaining a positive, persuasive, client-focused and professional manner is essential
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite products
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving and solutions-oriented decision making skills
  • Successful experience in budget administration and team management
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement special event programs and administer them within established constraints
  • Proven excellent negotiation/networking skills
  • Track record of securing corporate and foundation gifts for special events
