Name: Evan M. Webb-Stuart
Morehouse College '12
University of Florida '12

Hi Everyone,

If you‘re getting this e-mail from me, it’s because you have helped and supported me, so I want to keep you up to date on how I‘m doing.  I am very humbled by your continued interest and support of me.  With that, I have accomplished quite a bit since my last update.

School.  Part 1:  Physic Degree, Morehouse College

I just completed the physics portion of my dual degree (Physics and Aerospace Engineering Engineering Degrees) program at Morehouse College.  Morehouse was, overall, an amazing experience with friendships and experiences that will last a lifetime.   Here's a description of my last year:

Last summer, I began my research with Dr. Rockward in the Micro/Nano Optics Research And Engineering Laboratory. My work was funded by the Ronald E. McNair PostBaccalaureate Achievement Program--a program that prepares participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research, summer internships, seminars and other educational activities.

Last summer, I also took a Physics Optics course at Morehouse and spent my free time volunteering in Atlanta at the Summer Bridge Breakthrough Program Alumni Work (SBAN) --  community for fellow graduates and former staff of Summerbridge and Breakthrough students teaching students model programs.   I had a short summer break for a week or so and returned to Atlanta for my third and final year at Morehouse.  I worked as a Resident Advisor at the Brazeal STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Hall on campus during the year.  In the Fall and Spring I continued working in the Micro/Nano Optics Research And Engineering Laboratory. In the spring semester, I was inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma -- a physics honor society.

Currently, I'm in Troy, NY researching conductivity of nanowires using methods of Terahertz spectroscopy at the Terahertz Laboratory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Also, I have been researching space systems and vehicle design programs in the graduate school here.

School.  Part 2:  Engineering Degree, University of Florida

I was accepted into the Aerospace Engineering Schools at Auburn University and the University of Florida (UF).  I've decided to attend UF this fall to complete the second part of my dual-degree program. At the end of my two years there, I will have earned (at least) an Aerospace Engineering Degree to go along with the Physics Degree from Morehouse.

Aviation Plans:

My future plans are to resume my flight training and work on a instrument flight rules rating while at the University of Florida. I would like to intern for a private space company next summer (hopefully Astrium or the European Space Agency). As a career, I would like work as a test pilot in the private space industry.

Every day, I wake up excited to an unpredictable day. The environment at Morehouse College was  incredible.  I'm looking forward to UF!  I thank you all for continuing to support me.
