The TASF Mission
To provide educational and charitable services for the purpose of honoring living and deceased members of the Tuskegee Airmen and other persons who have made significant contributions in the field of aviation, aerospace and science technology.
TASF provides scholarships to assist financially disadvantaged and deserving young men and women in the pursuit of their educational goals, preferably leading to careers in the fields of aviation, aerospace and science technology.
TASF provides scholarship assistance awards to graduating high school seniors preparing to enter college and deserving of such recognition.
In 1979, the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation was established with an initial goal of $1 million dollars. Seed money came from pledges, contributions and the proceeds of a Memorial Banquet honoring General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. The goal was achieved in 1997 and in 2007 the fund balance reached $2,000,000.00.
For the slightly less than three decades of annual award presentations, the year 2008 grants brought to a total of $1,440,000.00 for 1,058 students who have, by virtue of these awards, made the transition from high school to college, many of whom would not have been otherwise able to do so.
