Charles Jones was born in Colorado but raised in the Washington D.C., metropolitan area where he attended and graduated high school. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and the U.S. Air Force's Undergraduate Pilot Training program. He served 9 years on active duty and 12 years in the Reserves flying T-37's, T-38's CT-39's, C-21's, and C-5's including service in Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm.
He has been a pilot with United Airlines for just over 16 years where he has flown the Boeing 727, 737, 757,767 and 747-400. He currently flies the 747-400 and holds a type rating on the 757 and 747-400. He works actively as a member of the professional standards committee with the Air Line Pilot's Association and coaches basketball. He first became a member of TAI in 1979 and currently is a member of the Los Angeles chapter of TAI. In addition, he is a member of the finance committee of the TASF.
