Brandon Obey of Alpharetta, Georgia was the 2005 recipient of the Golden Eagle Scholarship award. The four-year, $20,000 award recognizes a high school senior who has demonstrated an aptitude for aerospace technology and aviation.

Brandon is a graduate of North Springs High School completing a dual magnet diploma in both Performing Arts and Math/Science programs in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also inducted into the North Springs High School Legion of Scholars and Legion of Honors programs. He was selected to represent the state of Georgia for the National Young Leaders' Conference in Washington, D.C. and Morehouse College for the Math/Science State Center. During the fall of 2006, Morehouse College Upward Bound Math/Science State Center selected Brandon to attend the Fourth Annual Student Initiative Weekend sponsored by The Georgia Association of Special Programs Personnel (GASPP).

Brandon’s wide array of achievements include the earning of his Eagle Scout ranking with 30 earned merit badges including aviation, engineering and space exploration. He was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s Honor Society, and has earned the rank of Brotherhood.

Brandon plans to study Computer Science at Morehouse College and Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology by participating in the Dual Engineering Program. He plans to develop software for airplanes and flight simulators. “I always knew how hard my mother and grandmother worked so I would not be deprived of important educational opportunities. I knew, by striving for excellence, I was laying a foundation towards my post secondary education,” said Brandon.

Under the terms of the scholarship Brandon will receive $5,000 each year for four years. He was presented with his award on Wednesday, August 17, during the Youth Luncheon at the Tuskegee Airmen Convention in Orlando, Florida. Robert V. Hogan, Director, Commercial Serviceable Assets & Customer Solutions presented the scholarship on behalf of Pratt & Whitney
